PHD #3 History

Stilly Valley Health Connections is a program of Public Hospital District No. 3, Snohomish County, Washington. We serve residents of Arlington and Darrington, with a rich history dating back to 1909.

Public Hospital District No. 3 Through the Years

1909

Dr. J. E. Harris built Arlington General Hospital. It was the first building erected for use as a hospital in Snohomish County and served the residents of Arlington and surrounding communities.

1958

In 1958, a new hospital was built on the current campus.

1964

The community residents voted to tax themselves and form Public Hospital District No. 3. The District purchased Arlington General Hospital and renamed it Cascade Valley Hospital.

1987

A new hospital was built on the Cascade Valley Hospital campus, increasing the number of available beds and providing space for additional services.

1996

Public Hospital District No. 3, with interested physicians, formed North Snohomish County Health Systems (NSCHS). This health system, known as Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics, included the hospital and a variety of primary and specialty clinics located in Arlington, Granite Falls, and Darrington.

2009

Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics celebrated 100 years of providing medical care to the surrounding communities.

2010

Cascade Valley Hospital completed a $45 million expansion and renovation project, resulting in a new building and an extensive remodel of the existing building to expand emergency services and other medical services for a growing population.

2011

Public Hospital District No. 3 partnered with Skagit Regional Health to build a medical clinic in Smokey Point.

2015

A helipad was built next to Cascade Valley Hospital to accommodate airlifted patients.

2016

On June 1, 2016, Skagit Regional Health assumed operations of Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics per the Affiliation Agreement negotiated with Public Hospital District No. 3, ensuring long-term, continued access to high-quality, local health care for our community.

Public Hospital District No. 3 remains active in the community, ensuring Skagit Regional Health adheres to the Affiliation Agreement, acting as custodian of the hospital properties, and continuing to serve the community within its District boundaries.

2018

In 2018, Public Hospital District No. 3 started conducting business as Stilly Valley Health Connections. A new Mission and Vision Statement and Strategic Plan were developed, focusing on providing and promoting programs and resources that support a healthier community

2020

On October 23, 2020, Stilly Valley Health Connections moved into a new location in the Smokey Point area of Arlington. The building offers a large conference room for presentations, a board room for smaller meetings, a cooking demonstration kitchen that also has meeting space, and space for the District staff.

The building serves the residents of Public Hospital District No. 3, following the mission and vision statements set by the Board of Commissioners.

2024

The Stilly Valley Health Connections Foundation was established and received the designation as an IRS 501(c)(3) organization in January, 2024. The SVHC Foundation was created to raise funds to support the programs of Public Hospital District No. 3, DBA Stilly Valley Health Connections.
