School Mental Health Counseling

Stilly Valley Health Connections funds licensed mental health counselors in the Arlington Public Schools and the Darrington School District to support students facing trauma, stress, or emotional challenges.

These services help ensure students, who may not otherwise have access to counseling, can receive counseling support during the school day.

About School Mental Health Counseling

This program places mental health counselors in Arlington Public Schools and the Darrington School District to meet with eligible students as needed during the school year.

Mental health counseling access begins at the school level. Families should speak with the child’s teacher, school counselor, or principal if they have concerns about serious behaviors.

If it is agreed that counseling would be beneficial and the student is under the age of 13, parent or guardian consent is required. Students may be added to a waitlist if no immediate openings are available.

The School Mental Health Counseling program is available to students enrolled in public schools within the Arlington or Darrington school districts.

Eligible students meet with a mental health counselor as needed during the school calendar year. Sessions do not occur on days when school is closed for breaks, holidays, or weather-related cancellations.

If the student has insurance, the counselor may bill insurance for counseling services provided to the student. Any out-of-pocket costs, including co-pays or remaining balances, are covered.

Families are not responsible for any fees associated with the mental health counseling sessions provided to the students.

There is no public registration process. Parents and guardians must request support through their student’s school. All referrals, scheduling, and placement decisions are managed at the school level.
